Up From The Ashes

DSCN1334My wife and I have run several blogs over the last few years. The Green Apartment Blog was actually up and running until just a few months ago. I took the blog down because honestly it had become too broad. We found that we were covering everything from the wrong perspective than we had originally intended.

Green and sustainable living seems to have become a buzz word slogan for many people. For this reason, many companies have created products to help us as individuals live greener and more sustainable lifestyles. Some of these products are good and some are bad just like any other products you purchase. The problem is that everybody is trying to “push” a product or program in the name of “green living”. I fell into that trap with the original blog. The blog was becoming more like a sales pitch with every post rather than being something useful and informational for you, the reader.

I have learned much since taking down the original blog. I have also seen other blogs about living green. There are many good blogs out in the blogosphere promoting this lifestyle. The problem as I see it though is that most of these are written for the person who either owns their own home or at the very least rents a nice sized yard and home.

The trend that we are seeing in this economy, is people moving into smaller apartments and townhomes. It is less expensive and most of the time it is closer to our jobs.В  Because of this lifestyle, it may seem difficult to live a greener or more sustainable lifestyle. After all, we cannot rip out the toilet and install a low-flow toilet or composting toilet. We do not get to make the decisions on what type of appliances are in the apartment or choosing energy efficient heating and cooling systems. But we can live more sustainable, just on a smaller scale.

So after much thought, my wife and I are bringing The Green Apartment Blog up from the ashes. We will be sharing our insights and struggles as we strive to live a greener more sustainable life in an apartment. We will be bringing all kinds of tips and ideas that we come across to help you create a greener life around your home. Although we will be looking at things from a smaller perspective, you homeowners will find something of value here as well.

So there it is. The first blog post of the new blog.
