Let It Snow
Before I became a freelance writer, the mention of snow in the forecast made me happy and aggravated. I love snow, therefore happiness. I do not like traveling in the snow, but inevitably wherever I worked at the time would require that we come in. Greed is a terrible thing. Big business determined to stay open and make a buck. People need to listen to Nature when the snow comes.
Walking out this morning was beautiful. The snow had fallen all night and we awoke to over 8-inches. What was even more amazing was the quiet that the snow brings. The soft gentle sleet could be heard hitting the snow covered porch railings. There is a peace that the snow brings if only people would listen. It is a time to stop with our all the running around and rest. A time to inhale deeply and just be still. A time to forget the care of bills, shopping and business and just BE alive.
It is Saturday here in Richmond, Va. and it is the last weekend before Christmas. People have plans to run out and buy the next “thing” that will make Junior happy. Though the economy is in turmoil, it is Christmas and therefore a time to spend, spend and spend. Businesses will be Open because they know that people will come to spend their money. It seems to be the only focus of life these days. make money to spend money. So people that work for businesses, especially retailers, will have to get up this morning and sweep off their cars and get to work. Nevermind that even snowplows are getting stuck, employees must make it to work. Then about noon the customers will start to come. The cycle of money exchange may start late but the cycle will continue for this day too.
Why have people become accostumed to existing and not Living? When did we stop listening to the harmonious sounds of Nature?
We have a little squirrel that scampers in front of our apartment each morning around 8:00. He comes to gather nuts and then scampers off. He was not there this morning. Nature beckoned him to rest this day. A few small birds were out, quickly scavenging what they could and then flew back to their nests. Our crows and hawks were nowhere to be seen. They knew that this moment was a time of rest.
The day here will be quiet, even with the cars passing on the road. The snow beckons the quiet. The children that are here may come out and play in the snow for a bit today. The joyous giggles and laughter that only a child can bring to pierce the quiet the snow brings. The snow though seems very happy to hear the laughter. Too much anger and discontent among people these days. Laughter and joy is welcome.
So here are a few pictures of snow in Richmond, Va. Take the time to Be. Take the time to rest. Take the time to Live.

Beautiful post.I could almost hear the silence of the snow through your prose. But I’m still glad I’m in Florida where nature makes a completely different sound.
Thank you Steve. I could go for some Florida warmth myself right about now..lol Thank you for visiting and let me also say that Modern Hippie Mag is great! My wife and I have both been visiting often.
